Jane and I are always 100% transparent with our readers, hence the above note. When we work with companies, we want you to know. What follows however is our own opinion and recipe plus we’re giving something away to our readers so keep on going!!!

Following a healthy Mediterranean lifestyle is hard at times, especially when time is short. Jane and I are always looking for ways to incorporate readily available foods into our diet that are healthy and don’t require much time – especially for lunch during a busy week.

Enter Tunafish.

What I love about this particular kind is that it’s, “Mediterranean Tuna.”  Yep. Genova packets their tuna in olive oil.

When they contacted us, we were so excited to give it a try. How unique. How Healthy.

When we received the product, we planned to have it for lunch the next day and experience it like we would recommend and write a recipe for.

Opening the can revealed a lovely pink tuna, marinating in olive oil. We weren’t sure what to expect, but sure enough you could smell an intoxicating mix of olive oil and tuna. We grew in anticipation.

Upon emptying the content into a dish, we could see that it contained enough olive oil to use as a base for a recipe. Perfect! We’d get to keep all the flavors together.

We each grabbed a fork and dove it into the bowl so that we could sample the fish. We got the wonderful moist light tuna that’d you’d expect, but the subtle hint of olives really made it amazing. How could we have not thought of doing this before?

Note: We later found out that this is how a lot of Mediterranean communities pack their tuna – in olive oil (of course they do!).

We both came to the realization that this product was one of the best tuna cans we’ve ever tried. I’m not just saying that, seriously, check out Amazon. It has over 300 reviews and almost a perfect 5 star rating. We enjoyed it so much that we’ve even bought more can recently in order to stock up.

Naturally, Jane and I ventured into using this tuna to create a Greek inspired recipe, one that highlights the natural flavors of the tuna and isn’t overpowering.

The result? What you see below.

Tuna Kalamata Spread

Kenton & Jane
A Greek Mediterranean way to eat Tuna!
Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Cuisine Greek Inspired
Servings 1 -2

Ingredients

  • 1 5 oz can of Genova Tuna
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 tablespoon crumbled feta
  • 5 kalamata olives chopped

Instructions

  • Empty entire tuna can into a bowl, making sure to get all the olive oil, too.
  • Add lemon juice, salt, and pepper - mix with fork.
  • Add in feta and kalamata olives - mix.
  • Taste and adjust salt/pepper as needed.
  • Serve with some pita slices or veggies

Simple. The natural flavors don’t need much added to them, just some accents to give it a well rounded taste.

Both Jane and I can safely say, pick this up at your local supermarket. Take it to work and enjoy a healthy protein packed lunch like we  have. Additionally, you could also serve this as a meze (appetizer) for guests. Either way, you’ve got to try this!

To get you started, Genova has let us offer our readers a $1.00 off coupon. So print it out and give it a try.

Now, Let’s talk about that FREE Mediterranean gift basket.

Genova is giving one lucky reader a  basket that contains a lot of goodies. The basket will include the following: “Mediterranean Cooking” Cookbook by Pamela Clark, Olive Wood Serving Board from Sur La Table, Genova Tuna, wine, and a variety of Other Mediterranean pairings (e.g. tapenade, cheese, crackers, dip, etc..)

We got one and it was amazing. We enjoyed the wine with some crackers and olive tapenade. Yummy.
