Saragli | Nutty Baklava | Nuts In Phyllo

Nuts wrapped in phyllo- a great Greek dessert.

  • 1 cup walnuts
  • ¼ cup hazelnuts
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 package phyllo - cut in half
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • Syrup
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 slice orange peel
  • 1 slice lemon peel
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  1. Add nuts to food processor, and pulse a few times to chop - not too much.
  2. Add chopped nuts to bowl and add cinnamon - mix.
  3. Take one sheet of phyllo and lay it flat, coat with butter.
  4. Repeat 4 times
  5. Sprinkle some nut mixture.
  6. Add two more sheets of phyllo, coating with butter
  7. Sprinkle some nut mixture
  8. Repeat until mixture is gone.
  9. Start at bottom end, and tightly roll up, forming a log.
  10. Cut into 1 to 1.2 inch pieces.
  11. Place on buttered baking sheet.
  12. Top with a small amount of melted butter
  13. Bake at 350F for 40min, until golden brown
  14. While baking, make syrup
  15. Syrup:
  16. Add water and sugar to saucepan and heat over medium heat
  17. Once boiling, add lemon juice, lemon peel, and orange peel.
  18. Boil for 5 min, then remove from heat and set aside.
  19. Once saragli is done, remove from oven.
  20. Drizzle syrup over each piece.
  21. Serve!
Serving: depending on how you cut- one piece is one serving
